If IreneB’s career could be defined by a word, it would have to be “perseverance”.
The Spaniard artist had been studying music since she was only 6, listening to R&B since she can remember & she also graduated in Modern Music and Jazz in 2005. But it wasn’t until 2006, well into her twenties, when she released her first EP, “Mi Realidad”, that launched her debut in the music industry of today.
After this release, everything caught up faster than the speed of light. She met multi-platinum producer Frankie Biggz, with whom she recorded, between Miami & Orlando, “Metamorphosis” (Rama Music, 2009), her debut album. That album would make her the first Spaniard to ever release an English R&B album worldwide.
Moving to Orlando in 2007, where she established her home for over 4 years, she was encouraged by the excellent response and success of the 3 singles released off “Metamorphosis” in both terrestrial & online radio around the world. She embarked on a tour that took her to perform in her hometown Barcelona, Madrid, several cities in Germany, United Kingdom & most of the US territory (including Miami, Orlando, Chicago, Atlanta & Detroit, amongst others).
As if that wasn’t enough, IreneB was also featured in four songs for “Now Is The Time” (Heads Up, 2010), legendary keyboard player Jeff Lorber’s album, that later in 2010 would receive a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Contemporary album. Being that the most important nomination she’s received up until today, it’s not been the only one, as it was thanks to “Metamorphosis” that she would earn two nominations to the prestigious Premios de la Musica in 2009 (Best New Artist & Best Pop Album) & five nominations for the independent music awards Premios de la Musica Independiente in 2010 (Best Urban Album, Best New Artist, Spanish Artist of the Year, Album of the Year & Song Of the Year).
Three years after, and back to her beloved hometown, Barcelona (Spain), IreneB fires back with “Welcome Back”, an intimate collection of songs and sounds that remind us of singers and groups IreneB has listened to since she was a child, those who shaped her essence as a singer: Mariah Carey, Aaliyah, TLC and Boyz II Men.
Her new album is, in IreneB’s words, “a nineties R&B music tribute album; it is what I always
wanted to do and I am finally able to”. With “Metamorphosis”, her first record, we witnessed IreneB’s transformation; with “Welcome Back,” we experience a more mature artist, that experiments with different registers and textures in her voice.
